What causes varicose veins?
Varicose veins most often appear in your legs, where the veins must work against gravity as they carry blood toward your heart. Blood goes up your legs thanks to leg muscles that contract and squeeze the veins and one-way valves inside the veins.
The valves open to let blood flow up the leg and close to prevent it from going backward or pooling. When one or more valves weaken, the blood goes down the leg and accumulates in the vein.
This condition, called venous insufficiency, causes varicose veins. As blood builds up, the vein expands and turns into a bulging, twisted varicose vein.

- Leg pain
- Heaviness
- Itching
- Fatigue
- Burning

Without treatment, you’re at risk of developing serious complications such as skin rashes and nonhealing leg ulcers.

What is VenaSeal?
VenaSeal is one of today’s most advanced treatments for varicose veins. The VenaSeal Closure System uses a special, medical-grade adhesive to eliminate your varicose veins.
The adhesive quickly seals the vein walls together, and the treated vein turns into scar tissue, permanently closing the vein. Your body restores normal circulation by rerouting blood flow through the nearby healthy veins.
Any symptoms caused by your varicose veins go away. Additionally, the underlying venous insufficiency is treated, which prevents future venous complications.

What should I expect during a VenaSeal procedure?
The VenaSeal system is uniquely designed with a slim catheter that your provider uses to inject the adhesive into the varicose vein. They make a tiny cut in your leg — just enough to insert the narrow catheter — and use ultrasound imaging to guide the catheter to the end of the targeted vein.
For the next step, your provider releases a few drops of the adhesive, withdraws the catheter a short distance, and pushes against your leg above the vein. The gentle pressure ensures the vein closes and the walls are sealed shut.
Your provider continues this process (placing a small amount of adhesive into a limited length of the vein and applying pressure) until the entire vein is treated. Then they remove the catheter and simply put a bandage over the incision.

Does VenaSeal offer other benefits?
When you choose VenaSeal, you don’t need tumescent anesthesia, which means you avoid those needle pricks. Since VenaSeal doesn’t use heat, you don’t need to worry about accidental tissue damage.
Your recovery after VenaSeal is faster compared with other varicose vein treatments. You don’t need to wear compression stockings, and most patients return to their usual activities the same day.
